Sauna And Ice Bath

Both sauna and ice bathing—also known as cold plunging—offer similar benefits, though they do so in various ways.


For instance, infrared saunas improve blood flow by widening your blood arteries. On the other hand, taking a bath in an ice bath initially causes your blood vessels to contract, boosting blood flow to your critical organs but decreasing blood flow to your extremities. Additionally, after getting out of the tub and warming up, the blood vessels that feed your extremities with blood expand, increasing blood flow to those areas.


By raising your body temperature, taking a sauna might simulate a moderate fever. As a result, as I go into more depth in my post about the advantages of infrared saunas, your immune system causes the release of white blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, and interferon, all of which are components of the body's antiviral army.


On the other hand, as I describe in my article about the advantages of ice baths, exposure to cold water raises plasma concentrations of glutathione, an antioxidant essential for the proper operation of t-cell lymphocytes and activates natural killer (NK) cells.


You can increase your resistance to viral infections by combining cold treatment with sauna bathing, strengthening your immune system from various perspectives.
